The Canberra Climbers' Association (CCA) welcomes you to
the ACT Region. There are many opportunities for all types of
rock climbing in and around the ACT.
The ACT has some of the best granite climbing in
Australia. ACT granite has outstanding frictional properties
and to climb it requires precise footwork, balance and often some
boldness. Much of the climbing here is traditional and
requires natural protection. However, there is
also plenty of sport climbing to be enjoyed as well as
some difficult aid routes. There is also climbing on other
rock types such as rhyolite, limestone and sandstone that is nearby
to the ACT.
Areas such as: Booroomba Rocks, Orroral Ridge and Gibraltar
Peak have a range of classic granite climbs at all
levels of ability that will leave the visitor more than
satisfied. Mt Coree and the River Crags offer quality sport
climbing.
The CCA hosts five meetings and slide presentations as well as
several climbing days throughout the year. The CCA
also hosts, in conjunction with the ANU Mountaineering
Club, the occasional special event involving a keynote
speaker on climbing related topics.
