A day of bouldering at Dagobah bouldering sector - ACT
New and exciting bouldering area near Canberra
This is an opportunity to join the CCA’s first bouldering meet. We will be sampling the granite boulders in a new area near Canberra; perfect for when you want to climb closer to home. Participants will be able to become familiarised with the landscape, boulders and access routes of the new Dagobah* sector with guidance from one of the areas developer, Duncan Brown of Mountain Strong.
Participation
CCA members who are competent, self-sufficient boulderers and climbers are welcome. It is open to climbers of all experience levels who can boulder independently and take responsibility for their own safety. There will be no formal instruction, and it is not a conversion from indoor to outdoor bouldering day.
Trip Leader for the meet will be Meredith Harkness.
This event is for current CCA members only and event registration through the CCA website is required.
If you are not a CCA member, please join online first at https://canberraclimbing.org.au/. Your membership is active as soon as you’ve completed the online signup and payment and you can then register for the meet.
Difficulty
Dagobah offers a wide variety of bouldering with many entry level V0 to expert V9 boulders. To make most use of the venue, climbers should be familiar with climbing outdoors in any of the disciplines of bouldering, sport or trad.
The meet will require a 30-minute hike to the area, carrying gear and bouldering mats. It is high in altitude and can be cold.
What to bring
Participants are expected to bring their personal climbing gear, helmets, comfortable approach shoes and bouldering pads. We will bring a limited number of spare pads, so if you don’t have any and can borrow some, that is encouraged.
All gear MUST be in serviceable condition and boulder mats MUST have no significant tears nor thinning foam. All climbing equipment MUST be purpose designed and certified for use in climbing. All equipment will be inspected prior to activities.
You will also need to bring your food and water for the day. Prepare for both cold and warm conditions. A detailed list will be forwarded to people who register.
Transport
Transport will be independent but participants will be encouraged to car pool.
Questions
As part of the registration process you will have an opportunity to ask questions of Trip Leader.
