Moonarie - 2027 (Expression of Interest)

Moonaire, South Australia, 2027

Calling all experienced adventure trad climbers who are interested in visiting one of Australia’s most spectacular wilderness crags - Moonaire! The trip will either be in Autumn (March - May) or Spring (September - October) of 2027.

This amazing place is situated on the rim of Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges National Park, South Australia; 450km north of Adelaide and over 1400km and 16 hours driving from Canberra. Due to this distance we anticipate the trip will be around 10 days long. It is remote bush camping with no facilities, but Wilpena Resort is 15km north. 

The rock is Pound quartzite and it has a similar feel to Mount Arapiles. There are some easy routes but experienced intermediate and advanced climbers with a thirst for adventure will get the most from Moonaire. Because of the remote nature of the climbing, participants will need to be capable of independent climbing and abseiling and will be vetted by the convenors. 

Due to the distance and time commitment of this trip, we are giving people time to consider if they would like to attend and to let us know which of the two timing options best suits them.
