First Nations Rock-climbing Program

14th February 2026

The inaugural First Nations Youth Rock Climbing Program, co-designed and delivered with Yerrabi Indigenous Corporation, creates a supported group environment where participants are welcomed into rock climbing through Indigenous-led cultural guidance, peer support and skilled facilitation. The program is believed to be the first of its kind in Australia designed specifically for First Nations youth, with a model that can be adapted for other socially disadvantaged cohorts.

CCA volunteers provide the technical climbing instruction skills and program planning and management, and Yerrabi integrated the program into their Yarwaj Mara - Strong Pathways program that provides the cultural learning and support through their staff and mentors.

The project will create durable social, health, and participation outcomes for Indigenous youth while strengthening constructive relationships between climbing communities and First Nations Communities, that are consistent with the CCA Objects of reducing barriers to participation in climbing for socially disadvantaged communities.

We are currently in the planning phase of the next iteration of the First Nations Rock-climbing Program.

A huge thank you to Arc’Teryx,  Mont, Mountain Strong and Lake G College for their support of the inaugural First Nations Rock-climbing Program.
